about me

bio picture

My name is Alex, and I love web design. Design has been a lifelong passion for me; I began designing websites during the days of Geocities and haven't looked back (well, I look back every so often: if you get a kick out of animated GIFs, check out this site I designed for a project in 2001). Technology has changed since then, but the principles of design haven't.

Designing for the web comes with some unique challenges, one of which is the concept of usability. A website has to be usable, or it won't have an audience (or, at least, it'll have a very frustrated one). My goal, as a visual and user experience designer, is to make websites that are both beautiful and usable.

My clients have included UC Davis, Solano County, benefits consultants, and political campaigns. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in European Studies with a minor in Russian from University of Washington, during which time I studied abroad in St. Petersburg, Russia. I'm currently an MFA candidate at Academy of Art University in Web Design & New Media. In addition to web design, I also have experience in print design.

My myriad interests outside of web design include exploring San Francisco on foot, cooking healthy meals and occasionally not-so-healthy baked goods, singing and songwriting, shopping for shoes, traveling as much as possible (preferably internationally), and hanging out with my chocolate Lab, Bella, who believes herself to be a lap dog.
